ʻŌpeʻapeʻa

Hawaii's only native land mammal is the Hawaiian hoary bat. We absolutely love ʻōpeʻapeʻa! Unlike other bats, these bats are solitary and prefer to roost in trees rather than caves. ʻŌpeʻapeʻa translates to "half leaf" as the wing resembles the bottom of a kalo leaf. These cuties feast mostly on insects.
