‘Ākohekohe

I’ve been told that ‘Ākohekohe is the punk rock member of our Hawai’i honeycreeper ‘ohana. I mean…the mohawk is pretty metal. I have yet to see one of these hardcore nectar defenders in Maui but I can’t wait to do so. These manu only live above 5000 ft in pristine forest habitat on Haleakalā, with less than 2,400 birds left. My hope is that these long legged birds will once again expand their range in the future because of all of the conservation warriors working to restore our native forest habitats.
