Aeʻo

The Ae’o is one of five subspecies of black necked stilt. They are endangered with only 2,000 birds left; primarily due to wetland habitat loss. Ae’o means stilt or long legged person. They don’t get their bright pink legs until they reach maturity. Beware of getting close to their babies- they will release a loud shrill siren call to tell intruders to back off!
