Small Spanish Dancer Nudibranch

This brightly colored cutie is one of the largest nudibranchs in Hawai’i, reaching up to 8 inches in length. The yellow-margined Spanish Dancer is aptly named because it will “dance” through the water column when threatened, showing off it’s bright colors to warn predators of it’s toxicity. They are endemic to the Hawaiian islands and nocturnal. They spend most of the day hiding under rocky ledges in water 3-25ft deep. Keep your eyes peeled next time you’re snorkeling because these funky sea slugs are amazing!
