Kou

Kou was once thought to be a Polynesian introduction, and although it was brought here by early Hawaiians- it was also already here according to evidence found in Kaua’i that pre-dates human arrival. HOW COOL IS THAT? These coastal indigenous trees are found in plenty of other places and include names like kerosene tree (for burning so easily) and Snottygobbles (WHAT?!) Traditionally, the wood was used to make ‘umeke and the leaves were used to dye fishing line and kapa.
